Iranian Girls Claim First-Ever Runner-Up Title at Asian Youth Weightlifting Championships
The Iranian youth weightlifting teams delivered a standout performance at the Asian Youth Championships in Tashkent, with the girls’ squad securing a historic first-ever runner-up finish and the boys’ team also claiming the silver medal.

Iran NOC; Tehran: Both squads demonstrated exceptional strength and technical prowess, collectively securing a significant haul of medals in a highly competitive regional event. In a landmark achievement for women’s sports, the Iranian girls’ national team claimed the runner-up title, marking the first time in history they have reached this podium position. Competing in a tight contest, the Iranian squad tallied 534 points, finishing just behind tournament winners Kazakhstan, who scored 551 points, and ahead of host nation Uzbekistan, which finished third with 514 points. The team’s historic run was bolstered by an impressive performance on the platform, where they secured six gold, three silver, and three bronze medals.

 

The boys’ national team mirrored this success, finishing as the runners-up in their division despite competing with one fewer athlete than their rivals. The Iranian boys accumulated 530 points, trailing only the hosts, Uzbekistan, who captured the title with 553 points, while Kazakhstan rounded out the top three with 506 points. Throughout the championship, the boys’ team delivered a dominant display of strength, amassing a total of nine gold, four silver, and two bronze medals.
