In a high-level meeting with National Olympic Committee President Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, Japanese Ambassador Tsukada Tamaki pledged his nation’s comprehensive cooperation to ensure the seamless presence of Iranian sports delegation to the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.
Iran NOC; Tehran: President
Khosravi Vafa addressed the recent national tragedies, drawing a parallel to
the resilience demonstrated historically by the people of Hiroshima. He
emphasized that these hardships have only strengthened the resolve of Iran’s
athletes, while simultaneously highlighting the logistical complexities of the
upcoming Games. NOC President called for the Embassy’s cooperation in
navigating challenges regarding the lack of a centralized athlete village, as
well as other necessary supports.
Ambassador Tamaki offered his
deepest condolences and underscored that the power of sports transcends
political divides, a sentiment he illustrated by praising Iran’s recent World
Cup achievements. Acknowledging that Iran plans to send one of the largest
delegations, over 300 athletes, he reassured the NOC that their concerns are
well-founded and that the Japanese Embassy will work closely with the
Organizing Committee to provide the required solutions. The meeting concluded
with the presentation of a historic photo album to the Ambassador, featuring
images from participation in the 1958 Tokyo Asian Games and the 1964 Olympics,
which the Ambassador lauded as a precious record of the two nations’
long-standing sporting ties. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Mahdi
Alinejad, the NOC Secretary-General, Dr. Asghar Rahimi, Iranian Delegation Chef
de Mission, Mr. Hamidi, the Protocol Director, Mrs. Eslamian, the International
Relations Director, Mr. Mhamoud Abdollahi, the Public Relations Director, and
Mr. Farid Fattahian, the Advisor to the President.
