The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has approved its new “Fit for the Future” strategic roadmap while announcing a landmark financial support programme that will provide every Olympian with a USD 10,000 grant, marking one of the most significant athlete-focused reforms in Olympic history.

NOC; Tehran: The IOC Session has endorsed the Fit for the Future strategy,
establishing a long-term vision designed to ensure the Olympic Movement remains
strong, relevant and impactful through 2032. Built around five strategic
priorities—athletes, the Olympic Games, the Olympic Movement, societal impact,
and sustainable growth—the roadmap reflects the IOC's commitment to
strengthening governance, embracing innovation and reinforcing the central role
of athletes in shaping the future of the Olympic Movement.
The
strategy is the result of an extensive global consultation process involving
more than 2,200 athletes and representatives, International Federations,
National Olympic Committees, Organizing Committees, commercial partners and
other Olympic stakeholders. Alongside the adoption of the roadmap, the IOC also
approved a series of governance measures, including amendments to the Olympic
Charter and reforms aimed at enhancing the long-term evolution of the Olympic
Games programme.
In a
landmark decision aligned with the new strategy, the IOC announced the creation
of the Fit for the Future Olympian Grant, becoming the first Olympic governing
body to provide direct financial support to every participating Olympian.
Beginning with the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, each Olympian will
receive a 10,000-USD grant following the Games, regardless of sporting results or
nationality. The initiative is intended to support athletes as they transition
into education, employment, entrepreneurship or other post-competition
opportunities.
The
grant programme, backed by an investment of approximately USD 140 million per
Olympic cycle, underscores the IOC's growing emphasis on athlete welfare beyond
the field of play. By combining a comprehensive strategic vision with
unprecedented direct support for Olympians, the IOC has signaled a new chapter
for the Olympic Movement—one that places athletes at the heart of its long-term
development while reinforcing the values of solidarity, sustainability and
global impact.
