Iran’s national Muay Thai team concluded the 2026 World Championships in Malaysia with a total of eight medals, comprising two silvers and six bronzes, marking a significant achievement for the nation’s contingent.

NOC; Tehran: The 2026 World Muay Thai Championships, featuring both combat and
cultural (Wai Kru and Muay Boran) disciplines, spanned ten days in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia. The event saw 559 athletes from 114 countries compete. Iranian
teams, participating as the “Martyrs of Minab” was led by Javad Nasiri, the President
of the Muay Thai Association and a member of the International Federation’s
Executive Board and Asian Federation’s Vice President.
On
the final day of the competition, two Iranian representatives reached the
finals. Mehdi Abdi in the -86 kg and Setareh Moradi secured silver medals after
facing formidable opponents from Russia. In the semi-final stages, Fereshteh
Hasanzadeh (45 kg), Fatemeh Memani (-51 kg), Mahsa Mahmoudpour (-57 kg),
Fatemeh Hosseini (-67 kg), Narges Soleimani (-71 kg), and Siavash Amiri (-60
kg) all earned bronze medals for Iran. In other results, Zahra Nasiri was
eliminated after competing against Finland’s representative, and Asal
Zafranoloo narrowly missed a spot in the cultural (Wai Kru) final, scoring 8.46
points.
Notably,
the Iranian women’s national team was awarded the title of “Best Team” in their
division due to their outstanding performance, receiving the corresponding cup.
The men’s team was coached by Mohammadali Jahangiri. The women’s team was
guided by coaches Shahsanam Sedighi and Mahtab Haghtalab. Abdulhalim Barazandeh
also officiated key matches as a referee, invited by the International Muay
Thai Federation. Zahra Mehdizadeh represented the Ministry of Sports and Youth,
accompanying the Iranian delegation.
