Iran Cruise Past Qatar 8–1 in Ice-Hockey Cup
The Iran men’s national ice hockey team delivered a dominant performance, defeating Qatar 8–1 in the ongoing Tat Naft Cup 2026 in Kazan. The emphatic win marked a strong response after a narrow shootout loss in their opening match.

Iran NOC; Tehran: In their second day of competition, the Iran national ice hockey team imposed a fast-paced, attacking style from the outset and controlled the game against the Qatar national ice hockey team. Goals were scored by Arshia Ghafari, Parsa Jalali, and Ilya Hamze, each registering a brace, while Arman Bahri and Mohammadreza Sheikh-Jaafari also found the net. Jalali was later named Iran’s standout player of the match.

Earlier in the tournament, Iran faced hosts Russia national ice hockey team in a tightly contested opening match that ended 4–4 in regular time, before Iran fell short in the penalty shootout. Ghafari scored twice in that encounter, with Mehdi Abdollahi and Farshad Moghaddasi adding the other goals.

The Tat Naft Cup 2026 is being held at the Tatneft Arena in Kazan in a 3-on-3 format, featuring teams from Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Uzbekistan, and Qatar. The competition continues with group-stage matches as Iran competes in Group A alongside Russia and Qatar.
