Iran Finishes 2nd at World University Combat Championships with 30 Medals
Iran’s “Minab 168” delegation secured second place overall at the World University Combat Sports Championships in Brazil after winning a total of 30 medals. The event brought together over 1,500 athletes from 50 countries.

 

Iran NOC; Tehran: The World University Combat Sports Championships concluded with a high technical level, establishing it as one of the most competitive student sporting events worldwide. The participation of athletes from 50 countries highlighted the scale and intensity of the competition, where success proved highly demanding. The significance of the event was further underlined by the presence of technical committee officials and senior officials from various international sports federations, reinforcing its status in the global university sports calendar. In this highly competitive environment, the Iranian delegation delivered a strong performance, securing 14 gold, 7 silver, and 9 bronze medals for a total of 30 medals.

 

Iran’s second-place finish is seen as the result of structured planning, investment in university sports, and the consistent efforts of athletes and coaching staff. The achievement further strengthens Iran’s standing in international university-level sports. In the final standings, Turkey topped the medal table with 42 medals, followed by Iran in second place. Hong Kong, Brazil (host), Spain, China, Thailand, Canada, France, and the Czech Republic ranked third through tenth respectively. “Minab 168” squad consisted of 32 athletes, including 20 wrestlers (freestyle and Greco-Roman) and 12 karate practitioners competing in kata and kumite events.
