The National Olympic Committee of Iran has launched its Olympic Oral History Project, an initiative aimed at preserving the memories and experiences of the country's Olympic medalists for future generations.
Iran
NOC; Tehran: The project began with an in-depth interview featuring Hossein
Tavakkoli, Iran’s gold medalist in weightlifting at the Sydney 2000 Olympic
Games. Tavakkoli, one of the most celebrated figures in Iranian sport, shared
personal reflections on his Olympic journey, the challenges he faced on the
road to gold, and the lasting impact of his achievement on Iranian
weightlifting.
The
Oral History Project seeks to document first-hand accounts from Olympic
medalists, coaches and key figures who have shaped Iran’s Olympic movement. The
initiative is designed to create a valuable historical archive while ensuring
that the experiences of past champions remain accessible to researchers, sports
officials and future athletes. Officials believe the project will not only
preserve an important part of Iran’s sporting heritage but also inspire younger
generations by highlighting the determination, sacrifices and accomplishments
of the nation’s Olympic heroes.
