The technical assessment for the Iranian federations candidate for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games has officially concluded.
Iran NOC; Tehran: Following a series of intensive expert
meetings between the National Olympic Committee (NOC), the Ministry of Sport
and Youth, and federations, the strategic roadmap and athlete quotas for the
upcoming games have been established. In the final round of these specialized
sessions, the readiness and operational plans of seven disciplines—Triathlon,
Equestrian, Cycling, Volleyball, Football, Gymnastics, and Weightlifting—were
scrutinized. The outcome of these deliberations reaffirms the sports
leadership’s commitment to a “Quality-Based Delegation” strategy, ensuring that
the Iranian convoy is formed based on strict technical indices and realistic
medal prospects.
In the martial arts and individual sectors, the Karate
Federation is set to send a full squad of 8 athletes (across Kata and Kumite)
with the explicit goal of breaking previous medal records. Similarly, the
Kurash Association will field 7 athletes, focusing strictly on gold medal
outcomes, while the Jiu-Jitsu Association will send 2 elite athletes with a
high-certainty projection for podium finishes. Additionally, 2 athletes have
been confirmed for the Sepak Takraw competitions. Regarding team sports, the
participation of both 3x3 Basketball (Men and Women) and 5x5 Basketball teams
has been finalized, with preparations underway to return these disciplines to
the Asian podiums. Conversely, in Roller Skating, a developmental approach has
been adopted, with the delegation of one athlete focused on technical
evaluation and international experience.
The NOC leadership emphasized that with the conclusion of
the expert evaluation phase, the priority has now shifted to rigorous
monitoring of training camps, preparatory matches, and comprehensive logistical
support. The ultimate objective of this meticulous planning is to field a cohesive
and elite delegation capable of delivering a formidable performance and
enhancing Iran’s standing in the continental sporting arena.
