The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) introduced its digital streaming platform, the Asian Games Hub, during the ABU Sports Media Conference 2026 in Chengdu.
Iran
NOC; Tehran: The platform was presented by OCA Director of Media and Broadcast
Jeans Zhou Jian, who delivered a keynote address titled “Digital Media
Communication for the Future Asian Games.” His presentation highlighted the
growing role of Over‑The‑Top (OTT) technology and the OCA’s strategy to expand direct
digital engagement with audiences across Asia.
The
Asian Games Hub will function as the official digital broadcasting and media
platform for multi‑sport events governed by the OCA, offering centralized access to competition
coverage and related content. According to the OCA, the initiative represents a
strategic move to strengthen digital media independence while enabling more
direct interaction with fans, reducing reliance on traditional broadcasting
intermediaries. The platform is designed as a free, direct‑to‑consumer
service, allowing audiences across Asia and beyond to stream live competitions,
watch replays, and access news and sports programming through internet‑connected
devices.
OTT
technology delivers video and audio content directly over the public internet,
bypassing conventional distribution systems such as cable, satellite, or
broadcast television. This model enables viewers to access live or on‑demand content
on smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and computers without requiring cable
subscriptions or set‑top boxes. The presentation also addressed key topics including
comparisons between OTT and traditional broadcasting, categories of OTT
services, the operational framework of OTT technology, and the OCA’s broader
digital media strategy. Details were also shared on the content available
through the Asian Games Hub, including live streaming during the Games.
The
ABU Sports Media Conference, held from May 14 to 16 in Chengdu, brings together
members of the Asia‑Pacific
Broadcasting Union, sports media professionals, and industry leaders to review
developments across multiple markets, strengthen cooperation, and examine
future trends in sports broadcasting.
