A specialized meeting was held to review the latest status of Iran’s delegations to the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya and the Asian Beach Games in Sanya, with the participation of senior officials from the Ministry of Sport and Youth and the National Olympic Committee.
Iran NOC; Tehran: The commission responsible for overseeing the
performance of sports federations convened with the presence of the Minister of
Sport and Youth, the NOC President and Secretary General, and a number of
experts from both bodies. The meeting focused on preparations for the 20th
Asian Games, scheduled to take place from 18 September to 4 October 2026 in
Aichi Prefecture, with Nagoya as the host city. Based on the Games timetable,
the registration of the first list of participating athletes must be completed
by mid-March.
During the session, officials discussed the composition of Iranian
delegation. A proposal presented by the National Olympic Committee’s Monitoring
Centre suggested categorizing athletes across 33 sports into three groups:
confirmed participation, conditional participation and non-participation, based
on medal prospects. It was agreed that the initial list would be submitted
following further review and analysis of national teams and their main
competitors. With regard to the 2026 Asian Beach Games, to be held from 22 to
30 April in Sanya, China, the latest status of preparation of Iranian athletes
was reviewed, and officials assessed expected medal outcomes by sport. The
composition of Iranian delegation to Sanya has been finalized, with the country
set to compete with 61 athletes in Basketball, Wrestling, Water Polo, Athletics,
Sport Climbing, Kabaddi, Jujitsu, Football, Handball and Volleyball.
