Iran’s freestyle wrestling team claimed second place at the first United World Wrestling ranking event of 2026, the Zagreb Open, held on 15–16 February in Zagreb, Croatia.
Iran NOC; Tehran: The Iranian squad collected a total of 10 medals,
including two gold, two silver and six bronze, to secure the runner-up position
in the team standings. Gold medals were won by Sina Khalili (70kg) and Mohammad
Mobin Azimi (92kg). Silver medals went to Peyman Nemati (65kg) and Hassan
Yazdani (97kg). Iran’s bronze medals were claimed by Milad Valizadeh (57kg),
Reza Momeni (61kg), Ali Akbar Fazli (74kg), Adel Panahian (79kg), Ali
Savadkouhi (86kg) and Morteza Janmohammadzadeh (125kg). In the final team
rankings, the United States topped the table with 215 points, followed by Iran
on 180 points, while India finished third with 118 points.
