The ninth meeting of the Women and Sport Commission was hosted by the Malek National Library and Museum.
Iran NOC; Tehran: The meeting was
attended by commission members along with Soraya Aghaei, representative of the
Athletes’ Commission of the International Olympic Committee. Discussions focused
on the participation of Iranian women athletes at the Bahrain and Riyadh Games,
with an emphasis on their medal-winning contribution. Based on analyses by the
NOC’s National Teams Monitoring Center, women accounted for 41 percent of the
medals won at the Riyadh Games, underlining the growing capacity and impact of
women’s sport.
The meeting also included an
introduction to Aghaei’s role and responsibilities within the IOC Athletes’
Commission, a report on the Women and Sport Commission’s online participation
in a session of the Olympic Council of Asia, and a review of upcoming
educational programmes, including the Olympic Young Ambassadors course. The
session concluded with a visit by commission members to the Malek Museum and
its exhibitions.
