NOC Athletes’ Commission Holds 1st Official Meeting
Iran NOC; Tehran: The session was
held in the presence of NOC President Mr. Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa and
Secretary-General Dr. Mahdi Alinejad, alongside all elected commission members.
During the meeting, members conducted an internal vote to finalize the
commission’s leadership structure for a two-year term. The process was
completed after a second round of voting, ensuring full consensus within the
commission at the outset of its mandate. Addressing the gathering, the NOC
President and Secretary-General underlined the strategic importance of the
Athletes’ Commission within the Olympic governance framework, reaffirming
institutional support for its activities and its role in conveying athletes’
perspectives to decision-making bodies. The session concluded with the formal
issuance of appointment letters to commission members.
During the meeting, an internal
election was held to appoint the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Athletes’
Commission. Ali Pakdaman stood as the sole candidate for the chairmanship,
while Nahid Kiani and Milad Vaziri contested the vice-chair position. Pakdaman
was elected Chair with 14 votes. As no candidate secured an absolute majority
in the first round of voting for Vice-Chair, the election proceeded to a second
round, during which Kiyani withdrew in favor of Vaziri. Milad Vaziri was
subsequently elected Vice-Chair with 15 votes for a two-year term.
The meeting was attended by all
elected members of the Athletes’ Commission, along with Soraya Aghaei in her
capacity as the IOC Athletes’ Commission Member.
