A ceremony marking the launch of Iran’s National Equipment Equity Plan for provincial shooting associations, alongside the recognition of the country’s top shooting medalists in 2025, was held at the Shooting Federation, with the presence of Dr. Mahdi Alinejad, Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee.
Iran NOC; Tehran: The initiative, which includes the distribution of 500
firearms to provincial associations, aims to strengthen equitable access to
equipment nationwide, enhance grassroots development and expand Iran’s
competitive base in shooting at elite level. Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Mahdi
Alinejad underlined shooting’s strategic value within Iran’s high-performance
sport framework and its proven Olympic credentials. Iran’s shooting champions
have consistently played an important role at major international events. “We
will never forget Javad Foroughi’s historic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic
Games. If this discipline fully utilizes its existing capacities through a
logical and well-structured process, shooting can generate a significant leap
in Iran’s medal performance.” The Secretary-General reaffirmed the NOC’s
continued support for the federation, expressing confidence that shooting can
secure a sustainable place within Iran’s medal strategy at the Asian Games and
other major international competitions.
Mortaza Ghorbani, President of the Iran Shooting Federation, highlighted
the federation’s parallel focus on international engagement and domestic
capacity-building. “The development of shooting is our primary mission. In
recent years, we have expanded international cooperation by signing memoranda
of understanding with Indonesia, Kazakhstan and Oman. At the same time, today’s
distribution of equipment is intended to actively support provincial programs
and must be used directly in the growth of the sport” stressed Morteza Ghorbani.
He also emphasized on the role of provincial associations in maximizing the
impact of the initiative through cooperation with local institutions, while
reiterating the federation’s commitment to fairness, talent identification and
long-term sustainability.
The ceremony was attended by senior sports officials, provincial
association presidents, athletes and coaches. A number of leading shooters,
including Olympic and international medalists, were formally honored for their
achievements during the 2025 season.
