Mikhail Mamiashvili, Vice President of United World Wrestling (UWW), met with Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, President of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, at the NOC headquarters.

welcomed the UWW Vice President and noted that Iran is one of the world’s
leading wrestling nations, with the sport deeply rooted in the country’s
culture, history and centuries-old literature. He praised the efforts of the
Wrestling Federation President, adding that Alireza Dabir, as a former champion
with a deep understanding of athletes’ needs and strong managerial
capabilities, has played a key role in developing and safeguarding Iran’s global
standing in wrestling. He stressed that both the NOC and the Ministry of Sport
and Youth fully support Dabir’s leadership.
Khosravi Vafa underlined Iran’s
expectation that UWW continue to support Iranian wrestling as a major global
power, emphasizing that the Iranian Wrestling Federation stands alongside UWW
and backs its policies, planning and decisions. He expressed hope that this
positive, two-way relationship would be maintained and further strengthened. Addressing
Mamiashvili, the NOC President also called for valuable and influential
positions for Iran within UWW, noting that the country has many experts and
champions whose presence in key decision-making bodies could be highly
beneficial. For his part, Mamiashvili, who is also President of the Russian
Wrestling Federation, thanked Khosravi Vafa and said his visit to Iran was of
great importance. He described Iran as a great nation with numerous wrestling
champions and expressed appreciation for the NOC’s support of wrestling and
Alireza Dabir.
