The National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran has praised the country’s performance at the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, describing the event as a clear demonstration of Iran’s sporting depth, improved planning standards and rising competitiveness across multiple disciplines.
Iran NOC; Tehran: Iran’s delegation, known as
“Ambassadors of Strength,” fielded 191 athletes in 20 sports and concluded the
Games with 29 gold, 19 silver and 33 bronze medals—81 in total—securing third
place on the overall medals table. Despite a reduction in medal events compared
to the previous edition, Iran increased its share of gold medals to 10.74
percent, slightly higher than its 10.29 percent share at the 2021 Konya Games.
Iran and Uzbekistan each captured 29 golds in Riyadh, with Uzbekistan taking
second place based on a higher number of silver medals.
According to the National Olympic Committee,
nearly 70 percent of Iranian athletes won medals, reflecting the quality of
preparation, data-driven performance evaluation and targeted planning adopted
for these Games. Women delivered a standout performance, earning 38 percent of
Iran’s gold medals and 41 percent of all medals—more than double their share in
the previous edition. Iran won medals in 19 of the 20 sports it entered and
topped the podium in 11 of them. Notable highlights included eight gold medals
in wrestling, historic breakthroughs in swimming, a milestone medal for the
women’s handball team, two golds in women’s table tennis, promising results in
athletics, three gold medals by the women’s karate team, dominant performances
in Wushu and Muay Thai, and strong results in futsal and volleyball. Para-athletes
also contributed significantly to the medal tally.
The Committee underscored that the
delegation’s sporting achievements were matched by exemplary cultural and
ethical conduct, noting athletes’ respect for national symbols and commitment
to Islamic values. It expressed appreciation for the support of the Ministry of
Sport and federations, emphasizing that the Riyadh performance marks a
promising step toward future international events, including the Asian Games
and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
