The 14th General Assembly of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) was held in Riyadh on the sidelines of the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, attended by Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, President of National Olympic Committee, and Dr. Mahdi Alinejad, the NOC Secretary General.
Iran NOC; Tehran: The
meeting, hosted at the Hilton Hotel, reviewed key governance issues including
the election of the Athletes’ Commission, amendments to the ISSA Statutes, and
a progress report from the Organizing Committee of the ongoing Games. Delegates
voted to award hosting rights for the 7th Islamic Solidarity Games in 2029 to
Selangor, Malaysia, following evaluation visits to the three candidate
countries: Iran, Uzbekistan, and Malaysia. ISSA Secretary General Nasser Al-Mujlali
commended all three nations for their close and capable bids. Upon a proposal
from Sudan, Iran and Uzbekistan were designated as reserve hosts should
Malaysia be unable to stage the event.
The Assembly also
approved the establishment of a Committee for the Support of Palestinian
Athletes, to be chaired by World Taekwondo President Dr. Choue Chungwon, and
confirmed that the next ISSA General Assembly and Executive Board elections
will be held in Riyadh in May 2026 under Dr. Choue’s supervision. Iran’s delegation
participated actively in the discussions, reaffirming the country’s commitment
to sports solidarity and cooperation among Islamic nations.
