The 57th Executive Board meeting of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran was held at the NOC headquarters.
Iran NOC; Tehran: At the conclusion
of the session, Secretary-General Dr. Mahdi Alinejad told reporters that the
agenda for the NOC General Assembly, scheduled for December 30, had been
approved and would soon be distributed to members. Alinejad said the meeting
also reviewed the performance report of Iranian delegation to the 3rd Asian
Youth Games in Bahrain, where the team achieved its best-ever result — rising
from 20th place in the previous edition to 4th overall with 76 medals,
including 22 golds. “Seventy percent of our athletes won medals across 19 of
the 24 sports. The diversity of medals was on par with China and well ahead of
countries above or below us in ranking,” he noted.
Highlighting the strong
performance of female athletes, who claimed 48% of Iran’s total medals,
Alinejad described the results as “historic and inspiring,” calling the youth
delegation true “Ambassadors of Hope.” He added that Iran NOC aims to “place
the medalists of the Bahrain Asian Youth Games under its umbrella of support,
both financially and spiritually, to help guide their sporting future,” drawing
on IOC scholarship models for youth athletes. The NOC Secretary-General also
provided updates on NOC President Mahmoud Khosravivafa’s recent meetings with
IOC President Kirsty Coventry in Lausanne, as well as engagements with the presidents
of the international Volleyball and Rowing federations.
Addressing Iran’s future hosting
ambitions, Alinejad stated: “If the Islamic Solidarity Games were to be held in
Tehran today, we are fully capable. The Islamic Solidarity Sports Association
has recognized our readiness, and both the Minister of Sport and the NOC
President are determined to pursue this opportunity.”
