Leaders of Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya City have reaffirmed their commitment to delivering a successful 20th Asian Games, calling on Asia’s broadcasters to capture the passion and spirit of athletes as preparations move into the finals phase.
Iran NOC; Tehran: At the opening
of the 1st World Broadcasters Meeting held at Port Messe Nagoya, Governor
Hideaki Ohmura, who also serves as President of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games
Organising Committee (AINAGOC), encouraged delegates to “take the passion of
the athletes and deliver it to the public,” underlining the importance of
storytelling and media engagement in shaping the Games’ legacy. Meanwhile,
Nagoya Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa, Acting Director General of AINAGOC, revealed that
the city’s Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium — the main venue for the Opening and
Closing Ceremonies as well as athletics — is in its final stages of
construction and is set for completion by spring 2026. “The preparations are
entering a critical stage, but we will be ready to host a truly memorable
event,” Mayor Hirosawa assured. He also invited visiting broadcasters to
explore the cultural richness of Aichi-Nagoya, describing it as “the heart of
Japan, where tradition meets innovation.” The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games
will take place from September 19 to October 4, marking Japan’s third time
hosting the continental showpiece after Tokyo 1958 and Hiroshima 1994.
