The Iranian Greco-Roman wrestling team has secured the world championship title at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, Croatia — clinching the crown one day before the end of competition. This marks Iran’s first Greco-Roman team world title in 11 years and comes just a week after Iran’s freestyle team also won the world championships, an unprecedented double in the nation’s wrestling history.

dominance was underlined by multiple podium finishes. Hadi Saravi, captain of
the national team, captured gold in the 97kg final with a decisive victory over
Russia’s Artur Sargsyan. Earlier in the tournament, Gholamreza Farkhi (82kg)
and Amin Mirzazadeh (130kg) also won gold, while Peyman Ahmadi (55kg) claimed
silver. Rising star Danial Sohrabi earned bronze in the 72kg division after a
series of commanding wins, while several other Iranian wrestlers advanced to
the finals, including Alireza Mohammedi (87kg). At the end of the first three
days, Iran led the team standings with 80 points, well ahead of Georgia (45),
Japan (35), Hungary (35), and Armenia (25). With three more Iranians in the
semifinals and an unassailable lead, the squad coached by Hassan Rangraz celebrated
its return to the top of the Greco-Roman world after more than a decade.
