The World Youth Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships were held in Samakov, Bulgaria.
Iran NOC; Tehran: In this event,
the Iranian National Greco-Roman wrestling team won 1 gold medal, 2 silver
medals, and 2 bronze medals, becoming the sixth champion of the World Youth
Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships in Bulgaria. In the end, the Iranian
national youth freestyle wrestling team also won 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals,
and 2 bronze medals, and came in third.
Payam Ahmadi won the gold medal
in the 55 kg, Ahura Boveyri and Mohammad Hadi Seidi won the silver medal in the
77 and 97 kg weight categories, and Mohammad Javad Aboutalebi and Abolfazl Fathi
Tazangi won the bronze medal in the 63 and 130 kg. In the team rankings, Iran
stood in first place with 117 points, and the Armenian and Azerbaijani teams
came in second and third with 98 points and 90 points, respectively. For the
Iranian team, Mehdi Yousefi won the gold medal in the 79 kg, Ahura Boveyri in
the 61 kg and Abolfazl Mohammadnejad in the 125 kg won the silver medal, and
Ebrahim Elahi in the 70 kg weight category and Abolfazl Rahmani in the 86 kg
won the bronze medal. In the team classification, the United States won the
championship with 185 points. Kazakhstan came in second with 112 points and
Iran came in third with 111 points.
