Following the meeting of the President of the National Olympic Committee with Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Abbas Araghchi, in order to increase the utilization of sports' capacities in the field of foreign policy, a joint brainstorming session was held at the National Olympic Committee with the presence of Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, President of the National Olympic Committee, with a group of senior managers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Iranian ambassadors who were on their way to their missions in other countries.
Iran NOC; Tehran: At the
beginning of the meeting, Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, the NOC President, welcomed
and thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Iranian embassies in various
countries for their support of the teams sent to various international events.
He also highlighted the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the
missions and embassies of the Islamic Republic of Iran in other countries in
supporting the sports teams sent to international arenas and emphasized the
unknown capacities of the sports field in advancing the country's public
diplomacy.
The President of the National
Olympic Committee continued: “Sports play a significant role in increasing
interactions and communications between countries, and the National Olympic
Committees of countries have an important position in this regard, because by
holding international sports events such as the Olympic, Asian and World Games,
we witness that senior officials of countries are present at their opening
ceremonies. Apart from increasing the morale of athletes, this increases
friendship and interactions between countries. It is appropriate for embassies
to also pay attention to using these capacities, and we are also ready for any
cooperation in this regard”.
In continuation of the current
communications between the National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs with various countries, discussions were held and it was
decided that a copy of the memorandums of understanding signed between National
Olympic Committee and the Olympic committees of the countries that have signed
them would be provided to each ambassador to be used to strengthen diplomatic
relations between the two countries and define joint plans.
