On the final day of the Russian Grand Prix Rowing Championships, Iranian athletes added five more medals to their tally, bringing the total count to nine: three gold, four silver, and two bronze.
Iran NOC; Tehran: The competitions, which
began on Thursday, June 6, saw Iranian rowers compete strongly against
international rivals. In the women’s 500m four-person rowing final, the Iranian
team composed of Mahsa Javer, Zeinab Norouzi, Saghi Maleki, and Mahna
Hajhoseini secured the silver medal with a time of 1:37.11. Russian teams
claimed both first and third place in this event. In the men’s 500m single
final, Amirhossein Mahmoudpour finished second with by 1:36.16, earning another
silver. Fatemeh Mojallal also claimed silver in the women’s 500m single by
1:45.68. In the women’s 2000m four-person event, the team consisting of Mahsa
Javer, Fatemeh Mojallal, Zeinab Norouzi, and Saghi Maleki secured the bronze
medal by 7:25.33.
In earlier days of the competition, additional
medals were achieved:
Amirhossein Mahmoudpour took silver in the
men’s 2000m lightweight single (Final A) by 7:49.92, behind a Belarusian
athlete who claimed gold, and ahead of a Russian rower who was placed third.
Zeinab Norouzi earned Iran’s first gold medal in the women’s 2000m lightweight
single with a winning time of 8:28.14, beating athletes from Uzbekistan and
Kazakhstan. Soha Fakhri secured a bronze medal in the women’s 2000m single
(youth category) by 8:26.82. In the men’s 2000m lightweight double sculls, the
Iranian duo of Amirreza Abdali and Amirhossein Mahmoudpour won gold with a time
of 6:49.91. In the women’s lightweight double sculls, Mehna Hajhoseini and
Saghie Maleki also took gold, finishing in 7:51.94. With a strong and consistent
performance throughout the event, the Iranian rowing team concluded the
championships with a total of nine medals: 3 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze.
