Dr. Mohammad Jafari, Deputy Minister for Physical Education and Health at the Ministry of Education, met with NOC President Mr. Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, Secretary-General Dr. Mahdi Alinejad, and Vice President Dr. Mahin Farhadizad to discuss joint efforts in promoting physical education and Olympic values in schools.
Iran NOC; Tehran: During the
meeting, Dr. Jafari presented the Ministry’s initiatives aimed at enhancing
physical education through curricular and extracurricular programs, including
school Olympic festivals. He emphasized on the strategic role of school sports
as a foundation for both grassroots and elite sports development, and called
for the NOC’s close cooperation in reviving nationwide school sports
competitions. NOC President highlighted the importance of educating students
about the Olympic spirit and the humanitarian ideals behind the Games. He highlighted
that understanding the Games as a symbol of peace and unity—not merely
competition—is crucial to Olympic education.
Dr. Alinejad also stressed the
need for including Olympic content in school textbooks and held that the NOC
has officially proposed adding two pages on the Olympic Movement to the national
curriculum. He reiterated that opening schools to structured talent
identification programs would be a key step in developing future champions. Also
present at the meeting were officials from the Ministry of Education, the
National Olympic Academy, and the Student Sports Federation.
