Iranian weightlifting team became the Asian runner-up by winning 5 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medals.
Iran NOC; Tehran: At the end of
the Asian Senior Weightlifting Championship in Jiansheben, China, the Iranian
national weightlifting team, which participated in the competition with a
3-member team, won the championship title in the 96 and +109 kg weight
categories, and placed second in the medal standings after host China, winning
5 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze. Ayat Sharifi won the silver medal with a record
of 195 kg in the snatch. He won the gold medal with a record of 227 kg in the “clean
& jerk”, and became the Asian champion with a record of 422 kg in total.
Six weightlifters participated in the Group A super heavyweight category
competition.
