Iranian National Women's Powerlifting team sparkled in the Intercontinental Cup by winning gold and silver medals in the weight categories of 69kg and 76 kg.
Iran NOC; Tehran: After issuing
permission to send Iranian women to the Intercontinental Cup of Asia, Oceania
and Africa in powerlifting for the first time in history, two Iranian Women’s
National team members faced their rivals. Shahla Ghahramani in the weight 69 kg
exhibited a brilliant and amazing performance and was able to win a gold medal
in the squat, a silver medal in the chest press and a silver medal in the
deadlift. She won the overall championship with a total record of 417.5 kg,
higher than competitors from New Zealand and Hong Kong. Elham Salimian also
faced her competitors in the weight 76 kg. The Iranian female lifter won a
silver medal in the squat and a bronze medal in the chest press. The peak of
Salimian's performance was in the deadlift movement, where she won the gold
medal after beating the Asian record holder from the Philippines by setting a
record of 197/5 kg.
