The extraordinary meeting of the Executive Board of Olympic Council of Asia was held with presence of Dr. Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri, NOC President and Executive Board Member.
Iran NOC; Tehran: The meeting, which was attended by Farid Fattahian, Director of International Relations Department of the National Olympic Committee, began with a review of the reports of various Asian Games Organizing Committees.
Initially, the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games Organizing Committee, while
presenting a supplementary report after its recent meeting with the Chefs de
Missions, stressed the full preparation of China and the host city of the Games
to hold the great event of the ancient continent as successfully as possible.
90 percent improvement in completing the Hangzhou 2022 venues report and
holding test events were also highlighted in their report.
It is noteworthy that the support of the National Olympic Committee of
Iran to issue entry permits for Afghan athletes due to the conditions of
reopening the country's borders and coordination with other relevant agencies
was also praised by the Asian Olympic Council and its Executive Board members.
Dr. Salehi Amiri stated in this meeting: "So far, with the
support of athletes and the Afghan sports community, in accordance with the
professional duty of the National Olympic Committee and also the moral and
human mission regarding the issuance of entry permits and visas for a number of
Afghan athletes, we have helped and hopefully that the situation will improve;
this support will increase in cooperation with the IOC and the OCA."
Addressing the participants in the Executive Board, the President of
National Olympic Committee also pointed out to Iran's preparation to host the
next meeting of the OCA Executive Board, emphasizing the acceleration of public
vaccination and the dip in Covid 19 cases in the country. Dr. Salehi Amiri
held: “We are still ready to host the next meeting of the Executive Board of
the Olympic Council of Asia, and members are expected to express their
readiness and support in this regard. Holding the World Youth Volleyball
Championship is one of the best examples of Iran's preparation to host you”.
Postponement of the Youth Asian Games to 2022, the effort to hold the
best Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts in Bangkok 2021, the need to maintain
solidarity in the pandemic and the promotion of Asia in international positions
were other issues raised and discussed by the Executive Board Members.
It is worth mentioning that in this meeting, the efforts of Sheikh
Ahmad Al-Fahd Al-Sabah, the President of the Olympic Council of Asia, who has
temporarily resigned for personal reasons, were also appreciated and thanked.
