Athletes invited to the third stage of the men's national karate team training camps will follow their training sessions to participate in the Moroccan Karate One Championships at the National Olympic Academy.
Iran NOC; Tehran: after announcing the negative result of the corona
PCR test of those invited to the third camp of the national men's karate team,
the team's training began in full compliance with health protocols at the
National Olympic Academy.
Zabihullah Poursheib, Sajjad Ganjzadeh, Bahman Asgari, Amir
Mehdizadeh, Ali Asghar Asiabari, Saleh Abazari and Mehdi Ashouri are the seven
national team members present at the camp who train under the supervision of
Seyed Shahram Heravi as the Head Coach, Hassan Rouhani and Saeed Hassani as the
Assistants.
Kish Island and Azadi Sports Complex hosted the two previous camps of
the national men's karate team which is preparing for the Karate One Moroccan
competition, one of the Olympic Qualifying events for the Tokyo 2020. In the
men's section kumite, Iranian karate kas secured the final Olympic quota in two
weights. Bahman Asgari succeded to gain the Olmpic berth in -75 kg.
Also, in the weight +75 kg, Zabihollah Poursheib and Sajjad Ganjzadeh
have secured the Olympic quota by collecting the necessary points and a
suitable place in the ranking of the World Karate Federation. Given that Iran
can have only one representative in this weight, after the presence of these
two karatekas in the Moroccan Karate One competitions and the outcome of the
Olympic Qualifying events in Europe, the fate of the Iranian representatives in
this weight will be determined.
It is worth mentioning that karate competitions
in the Tokyo Olympic Games will be held in three weights, and the Iranian men's
team, in order to participate in the mentioned competitions with a full squad,
will send Amir Mehdizadeh to weight 67 kg, which has a chance to win the
