The NOC President, Dr. Salehi Amiri stated that National Olympic Committee believes each NF will gain authority from its general assembly and NOC never interferes with the election.
According the report
released by NOC Public Relations Department, Dr. Salehi Amiri emphasized that
any intervention by the NOC will disturb the procedure of NFs’ election, reduces
motivation for competition, and ignites a heated
debate for pros and cons.
“we need to foreground a
fair and free election, intervened election is unethical and unfair; I have
never meddled with any issues though we have the right to vote. NOC always
supports the voted candidate” said the NOC President highlighting the issue of
election.
Dr. Salehi Amiri considered
the elections of Rowing and Handball federations as fair ones and stated: “some
candidates try to attribute themselves to the NOC!!! I have already stated that
NOC and Ministry of Sports & Youth accurately aligned and the best election
is the one in which the highest number of candidates participate”.
The NOC President furthered
his statements to the upcoming election for Wrestling Federation’s president
and reiterated that neither himself nor the Secretary-General have commented on
NOC’s vote yet and that any claims attributed to NOC in this concern is false.
Dr. Salehi Amiri also
pointed out the issue of achieving the position of “IOC Member” and held: “anyone
requesting to become an IOC Member is required to meet 3 conditions; firstly for
instance, Prince Faisal managed to become an IOC member after a decade of hard
work, secondly, one must be globally accepted and has a positive image within
the international sports community through his connection and lobbies with about
100 leading sports figures and finally
he shall be capable of playing a key role in terms of political consideration
locally and internationally”.
“the IOC symbolically
elects some figures from some countries like Guatemala or Afghanistan but
Europeans outnumbered the Asians” said the President in his closing statements.
