Iran Wins 4 More Medals in Tunisia's Int'l Taekwondo Tournament
Young Iranian taekwondo athletes bagged four more medals to raise the Islamic Republic’s medal count to eight at the 2018 World Taekwondo Junior Championships in Tunisia.

Ali Eshkevariyan extended the Iranian run of success with victory in the junior men’s minus 73-kilogram category.

He beat Adrian Wojtkowiak from Poland 26-6 in the final at La Salle Couverte in the northeastern Tunisian town of Hammamet on Thursday evening.

Mohammad Mehdi Emadi then won at minus 68-kilogram by defeating an opponent from the United States 18-10 in the last encounter.

On Wednesday, Hamed Asghari Mahiabadi participated in junior men’s minus 59-kilogram competitions, and overpowered his Turkish opponent Arslan Demir 29-9 in the final contest to clinch the gold medal.

Asghari Mahiabadi had earlier defeated rivals from Serbia, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and South Korea in his march to the title challenge.

Additionally, Erfan Moradi conceded a 12-17 defeat to Azerbaijani contestant Javad Aghayev in the semi-finals of the junior men’s minus 63-kilogram weight division, and picked up a bronze medal.

The 2018 World Taekwondo Junior Championships kicked off on April 6, and will finish on April 13.

The tournament has brought together 950 male and female taekwondo practitioners from 118 countries, including Argentina, Azerbaijan, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Croatia, Germany, India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
